Standards Update: SharePoint Content Standards

by Richard Harbridge on August 18, 2010

This is part of an ongoing chain of updates relating to a SharePoint Standards Project where I hope to work with anyone willing to build out some good starting points and standards around SharePoint areas of interest. Here is the current list of standards.

This is only the first draft of the SharePoint Content Standards which I actually feel like is probably the hardest bunch to write but I think it’s a pretty good start. I would love to hear what you think and what might be missing from it. The idea around this is to aid in the Governance of SharePoint by providing standards and in some cases even guidance to users so that the SharePoint environment can be healthier, and happier.

These standards take SharePoint 2010 functionality and features into account.

I took a bit of a stance around some of the social aspects or SharePoint Social Standards so I would definitely like to hear if you agree or disagree. From my experience implementing social in enterprise settings negative tagging is definitely something that should be deterred and educated upon as it doesn’t really add value and often creates unnecessary friction and conflict.

Hope this helps,
